August is ushering in unseasonable hot weather here in the Pacific Northwest with temperatures expected to peak in high 90’s this week. What a better way to cool off than to try this month’s drink; Lemonade Lemongrass Fizz. I wanted to showcase a new drink application that incorporates the trend of using tea in a cocktail. Kombucha, fermented tea has been growing steadily for the past several years in beverage applications. This growth has opened up other areas to expand other flavors of the tea world. Below are some examples of interesting new drinks around the U.S. combining tea into cocktails.
- Jalisco Campfire: Tequila, Lapsang Souchong, agave, Thai chile, lime—Joule, Seattle
- Sweet Tea Punch, tea-infused vodka, mint, lemon—610 Magnolia, Louisville, Ky.
- Palmer Peach: Van Gogh Peach Vodka, Van Gogh Blueberry Vodka, iced tea and lemonade—The Sunset Tiki Bar and Grill, Westford, Mass.
