Taste of the Tropics

Taste of the Tropics

This month the R and D team is creating some new blends inspired by Oceania. Oceania includes Australia, New Zealand, Polynesia and over 1,000 smaller Pacific islands. All types of tropical fruits are found within this large and vast region. Kiwifruit while not native to New Zealand was brought to the region in the early 1900’s. In Australia, the Granny Smith apple was first propagated in 1868. The apple is now the third most popular apple in the U.S.

Oceania is broken up into several sections of cluster of islands that covers about 5 million miles. To the very south sits Australia, to the West with the largest mass of islands is Polynesia, and to the north is the cluster of islands called Micronesia, clustered between Australia and Micronesia is another handful of islands referred to as Melanesia.

Within all these islands can be found an array of tropical fruits including, Guava, Passionfruit, Pineapple, Coconut, Mango, Lychee, Mangosteen just to name a few. To showcase the flavors of the tropical islands, R and D created a Tropical Rum Punch that would be perfect to kick off summer.
