Northwest Naturals’ flavor of the month for April is considered one of the most popular fruits worldwide, mango! Originating from India, this fruit has traveled from Asia to the Middle East, East Africa and South America. Today, we can find mangos year-round at a local grocery store
or farmer’s market.
This tropical-tasting and deliciously sweet fruit is often associated with summer, but did you know spring is mango’s peak season? They are the first sign that spring has arrived!
There are six types of mango fruits that range in color from green, red, and yellow, with flavors varying from sweet, tart, and even buttery. But don’t let the color fool you as it can indicate more about the kind of mango fruit they are, rather than whether they are ripe. To tell if a mango is mature, the fruit’s smell and texture are a telling sign.
Mango is used across cuisines worldwide and is easily mixed with savory, sweet, hot and spicy ingredients at breakfast, lunch and dinner – in appetizers, salads, entrees, desserts, beverages, and condiments. We recently made a Spicy Mango Seltzer using Northwest Naturals’ Mango WONF #83498, and it was just as flavorful and delicious as it sounds! See the recipe below and let us know what you think!
Fun fact: Northwest Naturals was one of the first juice suppliers to offer single strength mango juice concentrate, and clarified mango juice concentrate, organic mango juice concentrate, mango puree concentrate, mango juice concentrate WONF, and mango fruit essence. Our single strength mango juice is one the most popular as it contains much lower pulp than puree but still offers the fruits strong flavor characteristics. Our team has worked with many customers to develop personalized applications, and we have recently seen an uptick in new mango juice flavor applications across industries!
We are excited to develop new products and work with customers to bring their vision to life. Contact us for free samples or to learn more about how we can apply mango juice to your next application.
